 Re: Famous Fans
Elvis Costello? Morrissey? Paul Weller's a friend of Madness Central on Facebook as well.
Julian Cope also mentions the band favourably in the second volume of his autobiography Repossessed:
"Dorian and I bought a video version of Complete Madness [...] Whoa, it was the greatest film ever and Madness were revealed as the best TV group since The Monkees. [...] Together in one package, the videos screamed out the genius of Madness."

 Re: Famous Fans
You're the one for me, fatty... Dicky Barrett of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones goes as far as to deck himself out, buzz cut and all, to look like an early-80s Suggs. Well, he did when the Bosstones were a band. Not so much now. But he does get all giddy about introducing the band on stage. You might not know the American comedian Janeane Garofalo: http://www.janeanegarofalo.com/And I use that term loosely because she's not that funny, or isn't funny at all... the latter. Anyway, she's a fan of Madness and has taken to including a yarn about the band in her recent stand up routines about meeting some 20-year old dude at the Sydney V Festival gig from last March. One, she's a not-so-pretty cougar. Two, she can't believe anyone his age would know who Madness is. Like I said, she's not funny. But others think so. We call these people simpletons.

 Re: Famous Fans
Can we count celebs as fans if they were seen at gigs?
If so then add Gywnneth Strong (Cassandra in OFAH and more recently Joe's Mum in the touring Our House show) who I saw at Wembley Arena years back.....
...and ex-footballer Jason Cundy (who appears on Talk Radio and was also with Peter Shilton on the Sport Relief Lets Dance thing last week)...was at the O2 a couple of years ago....he was in front of me in the taxi queue afterwards....very nice chap...

 Re: Famous Fans
obviously Moz and Roy Keane. I bought Roy´s bio a few years ago and on every second page he describes he is a Madness fan!
Fantastic Roy!!

 Re: Famous Fans
Not sure if he's a fan, but I thought I saw actor Martin Freeman (The Office) in the audience on the DVD of TLONF...

 Re: Famous Fans
Yeah he was and he is (I think) Rob....he was also at the aftershow chatting with Mr Smash from memory....he's known to be a bit of a music officionado who regularly DJ's I believe....think I read somewhere he's quite into the whole mod/ska scene and his dress sense would certainly back that up...also there was Matthew Horne (of Gavin & Stacey fame)....who is also a known fan I believe.....
....then there are the assorted Eastenders I mentioned in another thread that were there that night and/or at the Launch Party:
Shane Ritchie (well he was an Eastender then) Bobby Davro (ditto) Perry Fenwick (plays Billy Mitchell - a confirmed fan from chatting to him at the Launch Party) Ricky Groves (played Gary Hobbs - was definitely at both shows) The bloke who plays Max The bloke who played Keith (the scruffy one)
There were a couple of others there that night at Hackney too but I forget which ones - guess you do have to wonder with some of these celebs whether they are turning up because it's a freebie for them or because they are fans but I'm pretty sure the first four I've named above are confirmed fans.
Others for the list that have just sprung to mind:
Richard O'Brien (sighted at Hackney by Owen) Paul Putnam (Little Britain stalwart was at the Launch Party and confirmed a lifelong love of the band on Mr Youngs podcast of the night too I believe)

 Re: Famous Fans
Surely Michael Caine is some from of fan if they allowed him to use a clip of his voice? That would definatley make sense considering he was in that Nan's Christmas Carol aswell I believe... and on from that point surely James Corden & Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey writers) are fans after featuring House Of Fun in an epic scene from series three?

 Re: Famous Fans
Michael Caine allowed use of his voice as a result of his daughter being a fan. Matthew Horne has always appeared in the Nan sketches on the Catherine Tate Show....so the bands appearance on this years (frankly rubbish) Xmas special and his appearance aren't directly linked. Ditto the connection between the use of any piece of music in a film/TV programme doesn't automatically mean the film maker is a fan of the band....BUT in the instance of James Corden you may be right.... ....which actually leads me onto another famous fan....or at least I am sure I have read he is....John Thompson of Fast Show, Cold Feet and more recently Corrie fame....
