We're doing something never attempted in 15 years of online Madness music trading. Have you ever dreamed of a single site where you could download every known live Madness audio recording known to Mortal Man/Madness Fan? That's the lofty goal of this revamped Madness Central Downloads section.

Phil Morris and Paul "Birchy" Birch will be heading up this part of the MC Downloads Project. Watch as the Live Recordings Directory grows and grows! The Age of CD-R Mail Trading has ended!

Speaking of progressive growth, Lee "Loobyloo" Buckley has undertaken the Madness Central YouTube feature of the Downloads. Looby is probably the most perfectly perfect candidate for the job. If you don't believe me, check out her personal YouTube profile for the proof.

Don't stress, in this massive update we'll still have a spot for crowd favourites like First Step Beyond, The Lost, and any number of special radio, interviews and non-gig performances. In a widely generic fashion, we've named this the "Everything Else Archive".

We'll continue posting a Featured Download for those who love highlighted frequent updates. That's the most popular feature of the Downloads so it would be naff to bid it farewell.

As a final and important note, you will not find any recordings hosted here that are or were commercially available. This includes not only physical releases but also the more modern-fangled digital downloads of concerts as well. That's the way it's been for every percussor to Madness Central for 12 years now, and that's the way it is today. It's the right thing to do.

We're going to keep the content fresh here at Madness Central, where we'll regularly be featuring a new download for your entertainment pleasure. Rare demo versions, live concerts, radio and TV appearences, audio and video interviews, and alternate versions of your favourite songs are all fair play.

If you have a recording you'd like to share with the throngs of Madness fans, please feel free to send us the details and we'll get it up as the Featured Download for others to enjoy. You'll be credited for your contribution, of course, and you'll garner the undying love and adoration of the online Madness community who will lavish you with praise, accolades and small flower petals that smell of honeyed ambrosia but taste a little like stale eucalyptus cough lozenges.

During the tenure of the Madness Trading Ring (a fan forum that originally catered to, as the name implies, the trading of Madness live recordings), one of the more common inquiries posted to the group was, "Does anyone have a list of all the Madness live recordings?" Considering it's taken nearly seven years to get to this point (ten if you consider that we first thought of doing this back when we launched the Total Madness Mailing List), it's about time a comprehensive listing of all Madness live recordings was attempted here at Madness Central.

Better still, what about a listing of all Madness live recordings plus their corresponding zip files? That's what you've got right here!

There's really no way any one fan could compile a directory of live Madness recordings, so if you have anything in your collection that you don't see listed here, please contact our Directory Project Manager with the information for your recording.

There's more to Madness "bootlegs" than just live recordings. Rare demos, radio transcription lps, and interviews are just a few things to pop to mind. Things get a bit sticky with video recordings in the way of copyright and venue nickpicking, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have video recordings available through Madness Central. YouTube is the industry standard and that's where you'll find our wares (and if you look around online, there are clever ways to nick videos off YouTube, hint hint).
