Madness Central Downloads One Step Beyond Madness - Radio 1 Documentary - 1992 One Step Beyond Madness - Radio 1 - 29 August & 5 September 1992 1992 saw the return of Madness, both in the charts and on the stage, and a massive stage it was. The first Madstock, with audiences in the tens of thousands, reunited the seven members of Madness for the first time since the mid-80s, with all manners of promotion of the band, on tv, in print, and on the radio. Radio 1 and Steve Wright was the pinnacle of the newfound popularity and this documentary from 1992 marks this zenith-like event. Broadcast on the 29th August and 5th September (at 2 pm for the anoraks in the crowd), this two part documentary is one of the most all-inclusive histories of the band, and one of the most accurate as well. In the words of Steve Wright, the show's presenter: Once upon a time, in a little town called Camden, there were a bunch of blokes who decided to stop being a gang and start being a pop band. So Mike, Carl, Lee, Chris, Woody, Bedders and Suggs became MADNESS. This is their story: Who they were, where they came from, where they got to, and where they are now.
