Madness Central Downloads  Featured Download
We've got another gem of a download for you, "March of the Gherkins" as you've probably never heard it before.

What you're about to download is a backing track, recorded at Air Studios, of the Keep Moving album-cut classic. Clearly, this came off the sound desk and not a boombox microphone. The quality is just superb for a rarity of this caliber.

If you listen closely, you'll be inclined to agree that Suggs is singing "Thommo Land" and not "Tammo Land" on this version. What makes it even more charming is when Suggs sings the line "the louder the laugh" he actually adds a laugh here on this run through.

The extended musical bridge truly highlights the simplistic brilliance of the limited chord structure of the song. Mike's piano never sound better. The singing and whistling of the music over the end of this try-out makes for an interesting listening to a track you've loved since the 80's.

As a second slice of cake for our First Birthday, we've got another backing track from the Keep Moving era, again from Air Studios, the wickedly-rhythmed "Turning Blue." If you thought Woody's drumming was a whirlwind of syncopation and rough riffs on what ended up on the album, prepare yourself for a serious bone-shaking.

Suggs' vocals are raspier with a killer high note in the chorus, Mike's piano bolts through in a way that isn't heard on Keep Moving, and Bedders' bass thuds along like a night boat.

Alas, Chris and Lee are nowhere to be found, but that doesn't diminish this neophytic regaling of one of the best album cuts ever pressed to plastic. "Whoa!"

More of the same, more of the new. Madness Central is going on Two. Here's a different Turning Blue.
